Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection

november 10, 2020 admin

In December 2017, LCRP purchased a 25 year lease on 100 acres of forested land from the local community.
This was a huge step forward for the establishment of the sanctuary, as they now have a real place to call home –  Hundred Acre Wood!

This land is set in the Marshall Wetlands, a beautiful and important estuarine habitat with vast mangrove forests and unique biodiversity. The area is a proposed protected area, meaning long term security, community partnerships and ecotourism opportunities.

We very excited to design the relocation of the chimps to this beautiful and natural new home, and to build proper facilities, ensuring happy and healthy chimpanzees and a great working environment for the team.

Jenny and Jimmy Desmond are the founders of Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection (LCRP) in West Africa and its affiliate 501c3 in the United States, Partners in Animal Protection and Conservation (PAPC). Along with their team, Jenny and Jimmy work to improve the lives of chimpanzees, both wild and orphaned, in Liberia.
